We are thrilled to be partnering with ACC for the next four years, to support Water Skills for Life.
Water Skills For Life was developed for children in Years 1 - 8 to learn water safety. It establishes broad fundamental competencies for life-long water safety.
Together with ACC and other funders, we're trying to reach every primary school age child across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Children are taught Water Skills for Life at school, either by their school teacher in the school pool or by a swim teacher at a community pool. This learning is supported by classroom learning as part of the health and physical education learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum.
For those teachers at a school with a school pool, and living outside of Northland, Swimming New Zealand educators provide free professional development and poolside assistance. For Northland school teachers, this is conducted by Sport Northland educators.
Water Skills For Life comprises seven competency areas and can be taught through four learning levels for students who are beginners (Years 0 – 2), emerging (Years 3 – 4), confident (Years 5 – 6) and graduates (Years 7 – 8).
